Conservative Members of Colchester Local Highways Panel, Cllr Brian Jarvis (Borough Councillor Lexden & Braiswick Ward) and County Councillor Sue Lissimore (Colchester Drury Division) report on progress with the Lexden Road improvements, from Lexden Crown to the Town Centre, being funded by the Local Enterprise Partnership.

We are delighted to report that, to date, works have been completed on the Lexden Crown waiting restrictions and the installation of a new bus waiting area opposite Ashley Gardens, which is now fully operational.

Widening and surfacing works on Footpath 200 has also been completed and cycle route signage is due to be installed from Norman Way to Wellesley Road in the coming weeks.

An upgrade of the "zebra" crossing to a "puffin" crossing at Norman Way and outside St Marys School is awaiting the Electricity utility company to provide the power connection.

Progress is being made on the East End Public Realm improvements at the junction of Lexden Road and Balkerne Hill.  Pedestrians are reminded to use the designated crossing points provided.  Barriers are in place for your safety.

As the Lexden Road scheme has progressed we have kept all aspect under detailed review. Some design changes have been made. We have decided that the following works will now not be included within the current project:

  • Kerb realignment works at the Norman Way junction with Lexden Road.
  • Change existing zebra crossing west of the Oaks Drive junction to a signalised crossing.
  • Installation of Oxford Road bus waiting area

Carriageway surfacing and road marking works associated with the first phase of works (Sheet 1 to 7 on the scheme plan) will be programmed and advertised on this webpage. Click here to view the detailed maps
