Cllr Paul Dundas has been chosen as the new Leader of the Conservative Group on Colchester Borough Council. He was elected unanimously at the Group’s Annual General Meeting held via Zoom on Friday 17th April 2020.
He succeeds Cllr Robert Davidson who relinquished the role to take up the duties of Deputy Mayor and then Mayor of the Borough of Colchester, roles that will be formally voted on at the Borough Council’s Annual Meeting. A date for that meeting is yet to be set due to the current restrictions because of the Corona virus pandemic.
Cllr. Paul Dundas, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Robert Davidson for his leadership of our Group in Opposition since last May. He has recently been attending meetings with the other Group Leaders at the Council as we all come together to try and beat this awful virus and keep the Council’s services running as normally as possible.
“These are unusual times to be taking over the reins and I promise on behalf of my Group to do all we can to assist the current Administration to keep our residents safe and maintain the public services we provide. I shall also offer constructive advice where appropriate but this absolutely not the time for party politics.”
Cllr. Paul Dundas represents the Stanway Ward and was first elected in 2018. He is a local businessperson and also a member of Stanway Parish Council. He takes up his new role with immediate effect.
Cllr Lewis Barber has been re-elected as Deputy Leader.
